In this video, Logical Advantage’s Chief Solutions Architect, Marty Elvidge, presents his talk on Docker!
Docker provides a platform that allows solutions to be created as distributed applications that are packaged in a container. This container includes the application and the basic OS dependencies required for that application to run. The container can remain intact through the entire test, deploy and manage phases of an application. The application is built once in the container, then moved as a unit throughout the whole process.
Docker has the backing and support of some of the really big players in the application and infrastructure space such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and IBM, just to name a few.
Docker works well for any type of server or cloud-hosted technology. There are Docker containers for hosting web applications, as well as for web services created using a wide range of development tools and languages. There are Docker containers that serve as database servers, message system hosts, document repositories, etc.
